Foot and Ankle

Dr. MacGill grew up in Tampa and attended the University of Florida in Gainesville. He majored in premedical studies and minored in sociology, earning his Bachelor of Science degree with honors. He then attended the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University in North Chicago, Illinois. He graduated in the top 10th percentile of his class and matched with his first choice for residency at AdventHealth in Orlando, Florida, a top-tier foot and ankle surgical residency in Florida by case volume and diversity. During his residency, Dr. MacGill was selected for the AO DPM Trauma Fellowship. In the Spring of 2009, he completed it with Sigvard Hansen, Jr., MD, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.

Dr. MacGill is board-certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in foot surgery as well as reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery, the latter of which is only achieved by a fraction of the current practicing foot and ankle surgeons in the country. He is one of a handful of surgeons in the tri-county area currently performing total ankle replacement with preoperative computerized tomography (CT)-guided navigation and custom cutting guides: a technological evolution that enhances implant position and ultimate longevity of the new joint.

Dr. MacGill is the Director of the Foot and Ankle Surgery residency program and also serves as the Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees at HCA Florida Northwest Hospital in Margate, Florida. He is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) and currently serves as the President-Elect on their Board of Directors. He also serves on the Case Review Committee for the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and as a Section Editor for the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery.

Dr. Jodi Schoenhaus is an award-winning and board-certified podiatrist in Boca Raton, serving patients throughout Palm Beach County, FL, at the Foot, Ankle & Leg Vein Center.

Dr. Jodi Schoenhaus is considered a leader and innovator for various procedures and consulting services in her field including fat pad and vein care. Dr. Schoenhaus grew up in southern New Jersey and she considers herself a true Philly girl. After graduating from the University of Michigan, having studied kinesiology and human movement, she went to Temple University in Philadelphia where she got her doctorate. She completed a three-year program in foot and ankle reconstructive surgeries and residency in the City of Brotherly Love.

After completing her training and establishing a scientific foundation based on biomechanics, reconstructive surgery, and research, she moved to South Florida. In 2005, she opened the Foot, Ankle & Leg Vein Center with Dr. Jason Gold, another award-winning and board-certified podiatrist in Boynton Beach, FL. She’s board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in foot, rear foot, and ankle reconstruction. She is also a certified ultrasound sonographer for vascular imaging.

She is proficient in laser mechanics and techniques for medical treatments. Dr. Schoenhaus is a published author, speaker, and educator. She has trained residents and has held preceptorships educating other doctors using her unique skills. She specializes in the restoration of foot cushioning to treat fat pad atrophy which can cause diabetic wounds and ulcerations and extreme pain and discomfort while walking.

She has helped athletes and people from all over the world who cannot find this unique service locally. She has developed an extensive medical tourism program to accommodate travelers seeking her innovative techniques and she has published numerous blogs and articles on fat pad atrophy.

She has performed FDA-approved research in her field using dermal fillers, fat grafting, and fat transferring. Her background in foot and ankle surgery and wound care has helped her establish a vein program dealing with vein insufficiency, management of venous ulcerations, and the treatment of varicose veins. Her vein clinic in South Florida offers one of the most extensive programs for patients suffering from chronic venous insufficiency.

She is a consultant to various companies and has developed tools and techniques that can help improve patient care and outcomes. Dr. Schoenhaus prides herself on practicing with ethics and sincerity and believes patient education is the key to great outcomes.

In addition to running a full-time practice, Dr. Schoenhaus is the medical director of Shuzz. Shuzz provides new shoes and medical care for foot and ankle conditions domestically and internationally.

Dr. Schoenhaus has done mission work abroad. She is also a Masonic Angel Fund Founder which provides services to underprivileged children in Boca Raton and Delray Beach, Florida.

Dr. Piraino is a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon and nationally recognized leader in surgical education, academic medicine, and healthcare innovation. He has served as Associate Professor and Chief of the Division of Foot and Ankle Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine–Jacksonville, where he also directed the Podiatric Surgery and Medicine Residency. In this role, he led the education and mentorship of surgical trainees and was recognized for excellence in teaching, including receiving the University of Florida Superior Accomplishment Award. At a national level, he serves on the Board of Directors for the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, contributing to postgraduate education, leadership development, and clinical consensus initiatives that help shape the future of the specialty.

Throughout his career, Dr. Piraino has focused on advancing surgical education while supporting innovation in clinical practice. His experience spans undergraduate medical education, residency training, and national faculty development, including academic appointments at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. In parallel, he has led healthcare value analysis efforts, chairing the Value Analysis Committee at UF Health Jacksonville for over a decade, where he guided evidence-based product evaluation and the responsible integration of new technologies and biologic therapies. As an active researcher and educator, he has served as a Principal and Co-Investigator on studies in orthobiologics and regenerative medicine, with contributions including peer-reviewed publications, national lectures, and hands-on training programs across the country.

Dr. Cottom received his bachelor's degree with honors from Michigan State University. In 2002 he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Scholl College/ Finch University, in Chicago, Illinois. Subsequently, he completed a three-year surgical residency in reconstructive and trauma surgery of the foot and ankle at the Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University, in Detroit, Michigan focusing in all areas of Foot, Ankle, and Leg Surgery.

Dr. Cottom is honored to be one of only a few podiatric surgeons in the United States and the only in the state of Florida that has completed an Orthopedic 12- month surgical Fellowship at the prestigious Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Center in Columbus, Ohio. This advanced surgical training focused on foot and ankle trauma, sports medicine, reconstructive surgery as well as total ankle replacement. This was completed in Columbus, Ohio under the direction of Gregory Berlet MD, Thomas Lee MD, Terrence Philbin DO and Christopher Hyer DPM, FACFAS and was affiliated with The Ohio State University. This is the same type of fellowship that MD/DO orthopedic surgeons complete if they wish to sub-specialize in the foot and ankle.

In 2005, he completed an AO International Trauma and Reconstructive Foot and Leg Fellowship under the direction of Dr. Sigvard Hansen MD in Seattle, Washington. Dr. Cottom also completed a Fellowship in Kurgan, Russia focusing on the Ilizarov technique for correction of acute trauma and complex deformities of the lower extremity in both adult and pediatric patients.

Dr. Cottom has authored over 75 peer-reviewed research publications and 10 book chapters in the area of Foot, Ankle, and Leg surgery and has won research awards both at the state and national levels for his work. He is very active in lecturing, both nationally and internationally, as well as in teaching the latest surgical procedures to other surgeons. He is a devoted patient advocate who strongly believes that the quality of education and training make a difference in treatment outcomes. Dr. Cottom is a member of the American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons, which helps deliver superior continuing medical education to foot and ankle surgeons in the United States. He also serves as the Fellowship Director of the Alexander Orthopaedics/ Florida Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Center 12-month Foot and Ankle Fellowship which has graduated 16 fellows to date. A native of Michigan, Cottom now lives in Siesta Key, Florida with his wife Devin and daughters.

Known for her clarity, innovation, and integrity, Dr. DeMers has trained thousands of clinicians in ultrasound-guided injection techniques, PRP dosing, and evidence-based orthobiologic protocols. She is a frequent national and international speaker, advisor to leading biologic and device companies.
