MORNING CLINICAL FOUNDATIONS

Clinical presentation, differential diagnosis, imaging correlation, patient selection, contraindications, and treatment sequencing.

LIVE-MODEL ULTRASOUND

Peripheral nerve architecture, probe positioning, dynamic assessment, entrapment sites, and safe needle-trajectory planning.

  • Biologic science, XCELL processing workflow, hematology interpretation, quality control, and clinical strategy.

Cadaver-based upper- and lower-extremity hydrodissection training with emphasis on identification, safety, technique, and repetition.

Live demonstrations of advanced technologies that may be integrated into contemporary clinical practice.

HANDS-ON PROCEDURAL MASTERY LAB

Spend the afternoon refining image-guided hydrodissection technique across high-yield peripheral nerve targets. Faculty-led stations emphasize clinically relevant sonoanatomy, safe needle placement, tissue-plane separation, procedural repetition, and troubleshooting.

Proposed Upper-Extremity Targets

  • Median nerve / carpal tunnel
  • Ulnar nerve / cubital tunnel
  • Radial nerve / posterior interosseous or radial tunnel region

Proposed Lower-Extremity Targets

  • Common peroneal nerve / fibular head
  • Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve / meralgia paresthetica
  • Posterior tibial nerve / tarsal tunnel

Final procedural targets are subject to faculty confirmation and may be adjusted to maximize clinical value and procedural transferability.

LEAD FACULTY

Dr. Thomas Buchheit, MD

Thomas Buchheit, MD

Dr. Buchheit completed his residency in anesthesiology and perioperative care at the University of California, San Francisco, and his fellowship in interventional pain management at Wake Forest University. During the first decade of his career, he cared for patients with spine and joint disease in private practice.

In 2010, he moved his practice to Duke University, where he began studying nerve injury pain and served as Chief of Pain Medicine. During his academic career, Dr. Buchheit investigated the immune basis of pain relief following injury and the mechanisms behind regenerative therapies, including platelet-rich plasma, stem cells, and autologous conditioned serum. He has led several studies funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense.

In 2025, Dr. Buchheit founded Triangle Regen Medicine and Biologics Center in Chapel Hill, NC, to bring a wide range of regenerative therapies to patients. He now serves as an adjunct associate professor at Duke and continues to work with scientists at the Center for Translational Pain Medicine.
